CONSTITUTION

PREAMBLE

For the purpose of preserving and making secure the principles of our faith as founded on the Word of God, and

for the purpose of preserving the liberties inherent in each individual member of the church, and of the church as a

body, and to set forth the relationship of this body to other bodies of the same faith and order, we do declare and

establish this constitution.

ARTICLE I. NAME

This body shall be known as the

COMMUNITY BAPTIST CHURCH, INC.

of Greensboro, Guilford County, North Carolina

ARTICLE II. STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

SECTION 1

The purpose of Community Baptist Church is based on the scriptural reference in Acts 2:41-43. The Scripture

states four purposes for the New Testament Church that are also the foundational purposes for our church.

Community Baptist Church will focus on these four purposes as the basis for all decisions and ministries:

Evangelism - Community Baptist Church exists to reach lost people for whom Christ died. Luke

19:10 tells us that the Son of Man came to seek and to save that which was lost. Jesus provided

salvation by His substitutionary death on the cross. When He ascended back into heaven, He gave

the church the commission to take the Gospel into all the world (Matt. 28:19-20).

Edification - Community Baptist Church exists to help believers grow in the grace and knowledge

of the Lord Jesus Christ. (II Peter 3:18). After the three thousand were saved and added to the

church on the day of Pentecost, “they continued stead-fastly in the apostles’ doctrine” (Acts 2:41-

42). Community Baptist Church must not only win the lost, it must also nurture new babes in

Christ. Edification includes nurturing, maturing, and reproducing (Ephesians 4:12). We cannot be

satisfied until every believer has become a mature, dedicated, fruit-bearing disciple of the Lord

Jesus Christ.

Fellowship - Community Baptist Church strives to meet the physical, emotional, and spiritual

needs within the body of Christ and provide a biblical means of mutual accountability. Not only

did the New Testament church see three thousand saved and continue daily in the apostles’

doctrine, they also continued stead-fastly in the fellowship. Christian fellowship means provoking

one another to love and good works (Hebrews 10:24-25).

Worship - Community Baptist Church exists to worship and glorify God together as a body of

believers. The ultimate purpose of our church is to glorify God and honor Him. May all that we

do, say or think as individual believers and as a local body of believers, bring glory to our Lord

Jesus Christ.

SECTION 2

This church, Community Baptist, is to remain independent and free from any alliance, conference, association or

convention. This decision should not be altered in any way, unless by a two-thirds majority vote of Community’s

active membership roll.

This congregation is organized as a church exclusively for charitable, religious, and educational purposes within

the meaning of Section 501 (C) of the United States Revenue Law.

ARTICLE III. CHURCH COVENANT

Having been led, as we believe by the Spirit of God, to receive the Lord Jesus Christ as our Savior and, on the

profession of our faith, having been baptized in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, we

do now in the presence of God, and this assembly, most solemnly and joyfully enter into covenant with one

another as one body in Christ.

We engage, therefore, by the aid of the Holy Spirit to walk together in Christian love; to strive for the

advancement of this church, in knowledge, holiness, and comfort; to promote its prosperity and spirituality; to

sustain its worship, ordinances, discipline, and doctrines; to contribute cheerfully and regularly to the support of

the ministry, the expenses of the church, the relief of the poor, and the spread of the gospel through all nations.

We also engage to maintain family and secret devotions; to bring up our children in the nurture and admonition of

the Lord; to seek the salvation of our kindred and acquaintances; to walk circumspectly in the world; to be just in

our dealings, faithful in our engagements, and exemplary in our deportment; to avoid all tattling, backbiting, and

excessive anger; to abstain from the sale of, and use of intoxicating drinks as a beverage; to abstain from the use of

or the sale of illegal drugs and the addiction to prescription or over-the-counter drugs; to be zealous in our efforts

to glorify our Savior.

We further engage to watch over one another in brotherly love; to remember one another in prayer; to aid one

another in sickness and distress; to cultivate Christian sympathy in feeling and Christian courtesy in speech; to

be slow to take offense, but always ready for reconciliation and mindful of the rules of our Savior to secure it

without delay.

We moreover engage that when we remove from this place, we will, as soon as possible, unite with some other

church where we can carry out the spirit of this covenant and the principles of God’s Word.

ARTICLE IV. STATEMENT OF BELIEF

DOCTRINAL STATEMENT

1. BIBLE:

We believe that the Bible (consisting of 66 books) is the inspired Word of God, that every part is fully and equally

inspired, and that every single word of Scripture was produced under the control of the Holy Spirit (2 Pet. 1:21; 2

Tim. 3:16).

We also accept the Scriptures in their entirety as being inerrant (in the original writings) and infallible. For this

reason, we are committed to the Bible as being our final authority in all matters of doctrine (faith) and practice (Jn.

17:17; Mt. 5:17).

BIBLE INTERPRETATION

We believe in accepting the literal teaching of the Word. “When the plain sense of Scripture makes common

sense, seek no other sense.” Therefore, every declaration is to be taken in its primary, ordinary literal and its most

obvious meaning unless the facts of the context and the well-defined laws of language clearly indicate the terms

either to be symbolic or figurative and not literal. Whatever is not literal must be explained in the light of other

passages which are literal.

2. GOD:

We believe that there is only one true, eternal, living God, who is sovereign over all things. God can be known

through the many absolute and relative attributes revealed in the Scriptures (Dt. 6:4; Ex. 3:14; Col. 1:15-17).

God is the source and sustainer of all life. He, according to the council of His own will, decreed whatsoever

comes to pass, including both His perfect will and His permissive will (Isa. 14:24, 26, 27; Eph. 1).

3. TRINITY:

We believe that, although there is only one true God, that God consists of three distinct Persons, each of whom is

co-eternal, co-equal, and co-powerful.

We believe that the Father is God, that the Son (Jesus Christ, the Messiah) is God, and that the Holy Spirit is God

(Dt. 6:4; Jn. 6:27; Jn. 1:1, 14; Acts 5:3, 4).

4. CHRIST:

We believe the Lord Jesus Christ to be absolute Deity, the eternal Son of God, who became man without ceasing

to be God. In the incarnation, He was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary (Mt. 1:18-25;

Heb. 1:8; Isa. 9:6, 7; Jn. 3:16).

We believe that Jesus Christ was both fully God and fully man at the same time (Phil. 2:5-8).

We believe that He was totally holy by virtue of His miraculous birth and sinless life (Heb. 4:15; 2 Cor. 5:21).

We believe that Jesus Christ voluntarily laid down His life, the Just dying for the unjust, making it possible for

man to be saved (Jn. 10:17; Heb. 9:14, 28; 1 Pet. 3:18).

We believe that He rose bodily from the dead on the third day after death, and that He ascended into Heaven to the

right hand of the Father (Jn. 2:19-22; Acts 1:9-11; Heb. 1:3).

We believe that, presently, He is our Intercessor and Advocate, the only true Mediator between God and man

(Heb. 7:25; Heb. 4:14; 1 Jn. 2:1; 1 Tim. 2:5).

5. HOLY SPIRIT:

We believe that the Holy Spirit is Deity, a Divine Person of the Godhead. He is not a force, but is truly a Person

and is equal with the Father and the Son (Acts 5:3, 4).

We believe that the Holy Spirit gives spiritual gifts to every believer at the moment he is regenerated (Titus 3:5),

and that these gifts are to be used for the edification and perfecting of the believers in the Church (Eph. 4:12).

6. MAN:

We believe that God created man directly and instantaneously from the dust of the ground. Man was created in

the image of God and was able to have intimate fellowship with God (Gen. 1:26, 27; 2:7).

We believe that all of humanity fell away from God when Adam first sinned and that the fall resulted in both

physical and spiritual death for man. In this fallen condition, man was left totally depraved and unable to remedy

his own situation (Gen. 3:6-13; Rom. 5:12-21; 1 Cor. 15:21, 22; Eph. 2).

7. SIN:

We believe that sin is anything that does not conform to the character and nature of God (1 Jn. 3:4).

We believe that all of mankind sinned in Adam, the head of the human race, and that each human being has a sin

nature and also has committed personal sin (Rom. 5:12; 1:18; 3:20; 1 Jn. 1:8-10).

8. SALVATION:

We believe that salvation is the act of God whereby man is brought into a proper relationship with God. It is that

act where spiritually-dead man is made spiritually alive (Ps. 3:8; Jon. 2:9; Eph. 2:1, 2).

Since the natural man is dead in trespasses and sins, at enmity against God and blinded by sin and Satan to his own

condition, it is only through the operation of the Holy Spirit using the Word that man is brought to repentance and

faith. No degree of reformation, however refined; no culture, however attractive; no ordinance or ceremony,

however ancient and sacred; no feeling, however satisfying; no sincerity, however approved; no church

membership, however authenticated, can in the least degree add to the value of the precious blood, or to the merits

of that finished work wrought for us by the Lord Jesus Christ.

We believe that salvation is accomplished by the grace (unmerited favor) of God through man’s faith in the death

(shed blood), burial, and bodily resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ (Eph. 2:8-10; 1 Cor. 15:1-4).

We believe that salvation involves three things for the believer: deliverance from the penalty of sin at the moment

of regeneration, victory over the power of sin during the Christian life, and deliverance from the presence of sin at

glorification.

We believe that salvation positionally sanctifies the believer, but that the believer needs to experience, in his daily

life, progressive sanctification (2 Cor. 5:21; Rom. 6:14; Phil. 3:20, 21).

9. SATAN AND ANGELS:

We believe in the existence of the person of Satan. He was created by God as one of the greatest of angels (Ezek.

28: 14-15), but later rebelled against God. After he fell, he organized his own kingdom which consists of both evil

angels and also unregenerate man. He is currently the prince and power of the air. Satan’s ultimate goal is to

overthrow God. He seeks to keep the unsaved from becoming saved. He seeks to hinder and destroy the

Christian’s testimony and ministry for God (John 10:10).

We believe that both Satan and his evil angels will be consigned to the eternal Lake of Fire after the Millennium

(Mt. 25:41; Jn. 8:44; Isa. 14:12-17; Ezek. 28:11-19; Rev. 20:7-10).

10. CHURCH:

We believe that the true Church is a living organism and that it is the “body of Christ”, who is Himself the head of

this body. The Church is made up of regenerate, redeemed believers only (Eph. 1:22, 23; 5:23; Col. 1:18; 1 Cor.

12:13).

We believe that the Church began on the day of Pentecost; that every believer was indwelt-baptized by the Holy

Spirit into the one body of Christ, which is the Church (Acts 2:1-4; 1:4-5; Jn. 14:16-17; 1 Cor. 12-13).

We believe that the Scriptures teach that there are to be local churches. These churches are to be the visible

representation of the body of Christ in the local community. Local churches are to observe the two ordinances of

Christ and to seek to do the will of God (Acts. 20:28; 1 Cor. 1:2; Mt. 28:19, 20; 1 Cor. 11:23-28).

There are only two ordinances:

1. Baptism by immersion, which portrays the death, burial, and resurrection of our Lord.

2. The Lord’s Supper, which continually memorializes Jesus’

broken body and shed blood for the remission of our sins.

We believe that the local church should be totally committed to the edifying (developing to maturity) of the

believers and also should have an active outreach in evangelism (Eph. 4:11-16; 1 Cor. 14).

11. ESCHATOLOGY:

We believe in the premillennial and pretribulational return of Jesus Christ. This means that Christ’s literal,

personal return for His bride (the Church) is imminent and therefore can happen at any moment (1 Th. 4:13-17; 1

Th. 5:6).

We believe that, following the Rapture of the Church, the Tribulation Period (seven years) (Daniel’s 70th Week,

or the Time of Jacob’s Trouble) will take place (Dan. 9:24-27; 2 Th. 2:3, 4), wherein, God’s righteous judgments

are poured out upon the unbelieving world.

12. ETERNAL STATE

We believe that, following the Tribulation, the Millennium will begin. This will be brought about by the literal,

physical, visible, bodily return of our Lord Jesus Christ to the earth to rule and to reign for 1,000 years (Zech. 14:1

-4; Rev. 19-20).

We believe in the eternal punishment of the lost and the eternal bliss of the redeemed (Rev. 20:11-15; Jn. 3:16).

1. THE RIGHTEOUS DEAD

We believe that the souls of those who trusted in Christ for salvation, at death will go immediately into His

presence (II Cor. 5:8) and there remain in conscious bliss until the day of resurrection of the righteous dead at the

rapture of the church, when soul and body shall be reunited to ever be with the Lord in glory.

2. THE UNRIGHTEOUS DEAD

We believe that the souls of the lost remain, after death, in conscious misery until the final judgment of the great

white throne, when the soul and body will be reunited in resurrection to be arraigned before God in judgment, and

then cast “into the lake of fire which is the second death” to be “punished with everlasting destruction from the

presence of the Lord and the glory of His power”.

ARTICLE V. MEMBERSHIP

SECTION 1 - RECEPTION

Anyone professing faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, as personal Savior, giving evidence of a change of heart from sin

toward God, and declaring himself/herself in accord with the principles, practices, and doctrines of this Church,

may be a candidate for membership.

All such candidates shall be presented to the Church at any regular worship service, for membership. Candidates

will be accepted by unanimous vote of members present and voting. Should there be any dissent as to any

candidate, such dissent shall be referred to the Pastor and Deacons for investigation, and making of a

recommendation to the Church within 30 days. When brought back to the Church, a two-third’s vote of those

present and voting shall be required to elect such candidates to membership.

Candidates may qualify for membership in the following ways:

1. By profession of faith and expression of their desire to be baptized by immersion.

2. By transfer of letter from another Baptist Church (of like faith). Baptism conducted by

denominations other than Baptists is unacceptable.

3. By statement of faith and having been baptized by immersion when no letter is obtainable.

SECTION 2 - RESPONSIBILITIES OF MEMBERS

Members should honor those in authority in the Church, pray for them, submit to their leadership as the Scriptures

command, and assist them with whole-hearted cooperation.

Every member should cultivate his own Christian life and character, so that the unity of the brethren might be

preserved, and a good testimony might be displayed before those who are without. Members should purpose in

their hearts to practice the Church Covenant faithfully (See Article III).

SECTION 3 - TERMINATION OF MEMBERSHIP AND DISCIPLINE

A. Termination - Members who absent themselves from the services and meetings of this Church

for a period of 12 months (unless in Armed Services, school, or sickness), will be removed from

our active membership and lose voting privileges.

Letters of dismission will be granted to those members desiring to transfer to other churches, if

members are in good standing. Letters will be sent only to those churches of like faith, and not

given to the individual. When a member offers himself for membership in another church, his

membership in Community Baptist Church will terminate.

Membership can be terminated by (1) death, (2) transfer to a church of like faith, (3) expulsion, (4)

request.

B. Discipline - The Church will take prompt action against any member whose actions violate the

Statement of Faith or Church Covenant. The Pastor and Deacons shall make up the discipline

committee, and shall examine each case prayerfully, with respect for extenuating circumstances.

The discipline committee may only recommend action for the Congregation to take. Final

decision is the Congregations’—not the committee’s. The Church may terminate membership by

a two-third’s vote (Matt. 18:15-17; Galatians 6:1).

ARTICLE VI. MEETINGS

SECTION 1 - WORSHIP SERVICES

The Church shall meet regularly each Sunday morning and evening for preaching, instruction, worship, and

evangelism. A Wednesday night Bible study and prayer meeting will also be held. These meetings will be open

for the entire membership of the Church, and for all people willing to conduct themselves in a manner appropriate

for worship at God’s house. These meetings shall be conducted under the direction of the Pastor.

SECTION 2 - REGULAR AND SPECIAL BUSINESS MEETINGS

The annual election of officers will be in August. The annual budget proposal will be presented in November.

Regular conference meetings shall be held quarterly. Should there be any unusual concerns or matters of interest

to be brought up before such meetings, notice shall be given to the membership at least one week prior to the

meeting, unless extreme urgency renders such notice impractical. Any meeting concerning an unusual matter or

item outside the Church’s ordinary course of business, shall be designated as a “Special Conference Meeting”. As

such, the Pastor and Deacons should be informed about any or all items prior to any vote offered by the

Congregation. The Pastor should reside as Moderator of any and all conference sessions. In his absence, and with

his consent, the Associate Pastor or Chairman of the Deacons may serve as Moderator.

Any use of church properties/facilities must be approved by church personnel.

SECTION 3 - VOTING

Only those members on the active Church membership roll may vote. No person under sixteen years of age may

vote in a congregational vote which involves approval of a proposal to expend funds, matters of calling or

dismissal of a pastor, election of officers, or matters of Church discipline.

Voting shall be by secret ballot for the election of Church officers, or as deemed necessary by the Church. All

other voting will be by yes or no. Unless otherwise provided herein, all voting shall require a majority of the votes

cast to approve any item of business.

This constitution may be amended, altered, or repealed by a majority vote of the members present at any regular

conference meeting of the Church; provided, however, that such amendment, alteration, or repeal must be given

to the clerk in writing; and this proposed change shall be presented to the Church at least thirty days prior to the

time the vote is taken.

SECTION 4 - QUORUM

Members in attendance at any regular conference meeting or at any called “special conference meeting” shall

constitute a quorum. A quorum is not affected by the absence of members in attendance at the start of any

meeting, but who subsequently leave such a meeting.

SECTION 5 - MODERATOR

The Moderator at all conference meetings shall be the Pastor. In the absence of the Pastor, the Associate Pastor or

the Chairman of the Deacons shall preside.

The Moderator shall not vote at any meeting, except in the case of a tie or otherwise indeterminate vote, in which

case the Moderator shall cast the deciding vote.

SECTION 6 - PARLIAMENTARY RULES

“Robert’s Rules of Order Revised” is the authority for Parliamentary Rules of Procedure for all conference

meetings of the Church.

ARTICLE VII. ORDINANCES

SECTION 1 - BAPTISM

Baptism by complete immersion of the believer in water is a pre-requisite for Church membership. Only those

believers confessing Jesus Christ as Savior may be baptized. This act is an act of obedience to Christ and a

testimony to His death, burial, and resurrection, and not an act to wash away sins. Baptism doesn’t have any

saving power. Baptism from denominations other than the Baptist Denomination is unacceptable.

SECTION 2 - THE LORD’S SUPPER

The Lord’s Supper shall be open to all born again believers who are in fellowship with the Lord and His people. It

will be observed at least on a quarterly schedule. There shall be no alcoholic beverages used in communion

services. The Lord’s Supper memorializes the death, burial, bodily resurrection, and soon coming of our Lord

Jesus Christ.

ARTICLE VIII. CHURCH OFFICERS AND LEADERS

The officers and leaders of the Church shall consist of a Pastor, Associate Pastor, Youth Pastor, Deacons,

Trustees, Treasurer, Clerk, Sunday School Superintendent, Sunday School Teachers, Youth Workers, Music

Director, Pianist, Organist and various committees as deemed necessary by the Church.

For the spiritual welfare and testimony of our Church, all those who serve as leaders and officers should

exemplify the highest Christian conduct and spiritual maturity. These should include, but are not limited to:

1. A consistent daily Christian walk (Ephesians 4:17-32);

2. Faithfulness in reading God’s Word, praying, and attending

the regular and special services of Community Baptist Church

(II Timothy 2:15; Hebrews 10:25);

3. Faithfulness in the financial support of the Church through

a regular tithe and willingness to give other offerings

(I Corinthians 16:2);

4. Abstinence from places where the name of Christ is apt to

be abused or one’s testimony jeopardized (I Thess 5:22;

Ephesians 5:1-12); and

5. Full agreement with Community’s doctrinal stand and practices, as stated in this Constitution.

SECTION 1 - PASTOR

A. Position - The Pastor shall be in charge of the welfare and oversight of the Church. He shall be

a member of all organizations, departments, and committees. He may call a special meeting of the

Deacons or of any committee when the need for such meetings arises.

He shall have special charge of the pulpit ministry of the Church, and shall provide for pulpit

supply when he is absent, and arrange for workers to assist in revival meetings of the Church.

B. Duties - The Pastor’s first duty is to God who called him to preach; and therefore, all duties

which the Church may impose must conform to those imposed by God in the Holy Scriptures. The

Pastor shall be the administrative head of the Church, and shall moderate at all conference

meetings as provided for, herein.

It is the Pastor’s duty to give himself continually to prayer and the ministry of the Word, and to “

study to show [himself] approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly

dividing the Word of Truth”. (II Timothy 2:15)

The Pastor shall conduct spiritual services on stated and special occasions, administer the

ordinances, and minister to the members of the Church. The Pastor shall perform other duties that

are appropriate and that usually pertain to the office.

C. Length of Service - The Pastor shall serve until either he or the Church requests the

termination of his duties. In either case, a minimum of 30 days notice shall be given to either party.

The Pastor may not be dismissed unless a two-third’s majority vote requests his resignation or he

gives notice of resignation.

D. Election and Duties of A Pulpit Committee – When the necessity arises that a pastor be

called, the church should appoint a pulpit committee consisting of three or more members of the

church. The committee will elect their own chairman.

The pulpit committee will investigate available prospective ministers as to their soundness of

doctrines, sincerity of faith in biblical practices, ability of leadership, and public speaking. The

Committee should be in constant prayer that the Lord will lead them to the right person. When

they have found such a person, which they believe will fill the needs of the church, they shall

contact him for an interview. If he meets the scriptural qualifications he shall be invited to speak

for at least two services. If they think the church is pleased with him, they may recommend that the

church call him as pastor. The church will pay the expense of the minister’s visitation. If the

church calls a pastor, then the pulpit committee is automatically discharged from further duty. In

the absence of a full-time Pastor, it shall be the duty of the Deacon Board to secure capable men

(man) for regularly scheduled services.

E. Call of Pastor - The Pulpit Committee shall examine candidates for Pastor and make a

recommendation to the Church, in accordance with the scriptural qualifications outlined in I

Timothy 3:1-7. The Pastor shall be a man (other sex genders or alterations are rejected). He

should not be considered or presented for vote, as pastor, if he is divorced or his wife has been

divorced. Only one man at a time shall be brought before the Church for a vote. No nomination

shall be made except that of the Committee. The candidate, before he is called, will be required to

state his acceptance of and adherence to the Church Covenant and Statement of Faith of this

Church, to the Pulpit Committee.

Election for Pastor shall be by secret ballot and shall require a three fourth’s majority vote to call

the pastor. Election of a Pastor shall take place at a meeting called for that purpose, with at least

one week’s notice given to the Church.

The pastor’s pay package and benefits will be determined by the Deacons and approved by a twothirds

church vote at the annual conference. His salary is subject to annual raises and cost of living

increases. Upon the death of the pastor, his salary shall continue for a period of sixty (60) days to

his dependents.

F. Termination - The Church will give the Pastor a minimum of 30 days notice of any proposed

dismissal. Dismissal of the Pastor will be by vote of the Church at a special meeting called for that

purpose, which will have been read from the pulpit in at least three services, immediately

preceding the date of the meeting. A two-third’s majority vote of the qualified Church members

present and voting will be required for dismissal. At this conference meeting, reasons for his

removal will be presented, and he will be allowed to answer the accusations.

The Pastor’s conduct must comply with A and B, Article XIII, Section 4, under the title “Human

Sexuality”, on page 26 of this constitution. If a Pastor is dismissed on the basis that his conduct

has been lewd, lascivious, or otherwise grossly unbecoming of the Christian walk, thus

notwithstanding anything to the contrary contained herein, the discipline committee may call for

the immediate removal of the Pastor, with Church approval, with-out notice and without pay.

SECTION 2 – ASSOCIATE PASTOR

A. Position – Just like the Senior Pastor the Associate Pastor’s first duty is to God who called him

to preach. The Associate Pastor should meet the scriptural qualifications given in I Tim. 3:1-7.

The position requires a man to serve.

B. Duties - shall include but are not limited to the following:

1) Assisting Pastor so that he may devote more time to prayer and Bible study;

2) Assisting Pastor with his pulpit ministry when asked;

3) Associate Pastor should take over Pastor’s responsibilities during Pastor’s absence;

4) Associate Pastor may be called on to teach a Sunday School class or assist

Youth Pastor on occasion;

5) Assisting Pastor with visitation ministry (hospitals and shut- ins);

6) Assisting Pastor with counseling ministry

7) Assisting Pastor with special activities (planning and carrying-out);

8) Assisting Pastor with mail ministry (including missionary letters; and

9) Assisting Pastor with special duties such as weddings and funerals.

SECTION 3 – YOUTH PASTOR

A. Duties – shall include but are not limited to:

1. Sunday Morning: coordinating children’s church ministry, including securing volunteer

teachers and making sure they have needed materials to help classes have a better understanding of

God’s Word.

2. Sunday Night: Lead Middle School and High School Youth

3. Wednesday Night: Teach College and Career

In the absence of a Youth Pastor a Youth Director shall be elected on an annual basis. The Youth

Director shall fall under the same guidelines of Officers and Leaders (See Article VIII).

B. Basic Objectives for Youth

1. Salvation (seek to lead each Youth to Christ).

2. Student of the scriptures (lead each Youth in daily devotions).

3. Service for Christ through the Church (lead each Youth in regular Christian services).

4. Strengthened in Christ (lead each Youth to spiritual growth and maturity).

5. Encourage Godly friendships.

The Youth Pastor’s salary and package benefits will be determined by the Pastor and Deacons and

approved by a two-thirds vote from the Church. His salary is subject to annual raises and cost of

living increases.

SECTION 4 - STAFF POSITIONS

A. Election - This Church shall call or employ such staff members as the Church shall need. A

job description shall be written when the need for staff members is determined. Paid staff

members other than the Pastor shall be recommended to the Church by the Pastor and Deacons,

and employed by an action of the Church. Pastoral staff are to meet the scriptural qualifications

given in I Tim. 3:1-7. All ministerial positions require a man to serve. (See Article VIII Sec. 1-E)

Every effort will be made to provide qualified personnel for the ministries of the Church through

voluntary staff from the active membership of the Church. When it is deemed necessary to invite

vocational staff (such as pastoral assistants, youth pastors, music directors, secretaries, etc.), the

Pastor and Deacons will establish such staff positions, and recommend qualified personnel, with

appropriate salaries, to the church. It shall be approved by a two-thirds majority vote at a special

meeting called for that purpose, which shall have been read from the pulpit on two successive

services, immediately preceding the date of the meeting. Staff members will become, if not

already, members of the Church, and are to be under the direct supervision of the Pastor, who will

prepare an appropriate, written job description for each staff member.

B. Dismissal - Staff members may be dismissed from the staff by a two-thirds majority of the

qualified members present and voting at a special meeting called for that purpose, which will have

been read from the pulpit on two successive services immediately preceding the date of the

meeting.

The staff members’ conduct must comply with A and B, Article XIII, Section 4, under the title

“Human Sexuality”, on page 24 of this constitution. If a staff member is dismissed on the basis that

his/her conduct has been lewd, lascivious, or otherwise grossly unbecoming of the Christian walk,

thus notwithstanding anything to the contrary contained herein, the discipline committee may call

for the immediate removal of the staff member, with Church approval, without notice and without

pay.

SECTION 5 - DEACONS

A. Number and Election - There shall be as many Deacons as the Church deems necessary and

appropriate. The Deacons shall serve on a rotation basis. In the case of death, removal,

resignation, or incapacity to serve, the Church may elect to fill the unexpired term of any Deacon.

There is no obligation of the Church to activate a person who comes to the Church from another,

where he has served as a Deacon. No man can be nominated to be a Deacon who has not been a

member of Community Baptist Church for at least one year. No one shall be elected to the office of

Deacon who does not fit the qualifications as laid down in I Timothy 3:8-13. A Deacon must not

have been divorced, or remarried with a living spouse. The Deacon’s wife must not have been

divorced.

Only men shall be nominated for this office. Nominations will be voted on in July. Deacons shall

be elected for a term of three years with replacements chosen each year in July. Deacons may be re

-elected after they have been out of active office for a period of one year. The nominations are

made by the members. The Pastor and Deacons will talk with the nominees beginning with the

ones with the most nominations until the number needed for the ballot is reached. At this time a

ballot will be made with two more names than needed to fill the position or positions. The church

members will be asked to vote for the actual number needed. At the count of the votes (by the

Deacons) the one(s) with the most votes will serve.

B. Duties of Deacons - It shall be the duty of Deacons to assist the Pastor in every way possible.

The Deacons shall visit the sick and aid the Pastor in ministering to the physical and spiritual needs

of others. The Deacons shall convene on an established, monthly basis to consider an agenda

which reflects the overall responsibilities entrusted to them.

The Deacons shall serve as members of the discipline committee, along with the Pastor, and shall

comprise that committee. The Chairman of the Deacon Board shall serve as a member of the

nominating committee, along with the Pastor, and shall comprise that committee.

The Deacons cannot authorize any expense over $1,000 without Church approval. They shall

supervise the financial program of the Church, and annually review and recommend a raise for the

paid staff (as is needful).

SECTION 6 - TRUSTEES

No man can be elected to the office of Trustee who has not been a member of Community Baptist

Church for at least one year. Only men shall be nominated for the office of trustee. Trustees will

serve a three year term. These shall be voted on at the annual meeting (the election of officers and

teachers in August of each year). The Church shall have three Trustees. It shall be the duty of the

Trustees to maintain the properties of the Church, using funds allocated for that purpose, by the

Church. The Trustees shall hold in trust the title to all property of the Church, and shall represent

the Church in legal matters regarding the Church’s property.

The authorization of any expense over $500 will require Church action. The Trustees shall be

responsible for keeping inventory of Church property in case of theft or fire. The Trustees shall be

responsible for seeing that the Church’s insurance is adequate. The Trustees shall meet at least

once quarterly. They shall have no power to buy, sell, mortgage, lease or transfer any Church

property without majority vote of the Church giving such authorization.

SECTION 7 - SECRETARY/TREASURER

A. Election - The Church shall elect a Church Secretary/Treasurer at the annual conference. No

one can be nominated to hold the office of Secretary/Treasurer who has not been a member of

Community Baptist Church for at least one year. The Treasurer may succeed himself/herself in the

position of Treasurer.

B. Duties - It shall be the duty of the Secretary/Treasurer to maintain the church calendar to

facilitate the use of the church property for events other than regularly scheduled conferences. See

Article XIII, Section 2.

The Secretary/Treasurer shall receive and disburse by check, upon proper authority, all money and

things of value that are given to the Church, and keep at all times an itemized account of all

receipts and disbursements, including yearly tithing reports to members.

All Church funds shall be deposited with an appropriate financial institution, and the

Secretary/Treasurer shall maintain records of all such deposits. The Secretary/Treasurer shall also,

at the direction of the Pastor and Deacons, invest Church deposits in appropriate short-term,

insured investments, and maintain accurate records of such investments.

The Secretary/Treasurer shall prepare a financial report and present it to the Church at quarterly

conferences. The Secretary/Treasurer shall prepare all financial records for an audit, if the Church

deemed one necessary. The Secretary/Treasurer and Assistant Treasurer have authority to sign

checks. Upon termination of service, the Secretary/Treasurer shall release back to Community

Baptist Church, all financial records, reports, and money in his/her possession.

SECTION 8 - CHURCH CLERK

A. Election - The Church shall elect a church Clerk at the annual conference. The Clerk may

succeed himself/herself in the position of Clerk. No one can be nominated to the office of Church

Clerk who has not been a member of Community Baptist Church at least one year.

B. Duties - The Clerk shall keep a record of all actions of Church business meetings. The Clerk

shall be present or represented at all Church business meetings. The Clerk shall return a copy of

the minutes to the Pastor by the next service following a business session. The Clerk shall issue

letters of dismissal and transfer or denial, as authorized by the Church. The Clerk shall keep a

register of all members with dates of their admission and dismissal or death. The Clerk shall

maintain an up-to-date active roll and inactive roll of all the members.

Upon termination of service, the Clerk shall release back to Community Baptist Church, all

records and Church property in his/her possession.

SECTION 9 - SUNDAY SCHOOL SUPERINTENDENT

A. Election - The Sunday School Superintendent shall be elected for a one-year term at the

annual conference. The Sunday School Superintendent may succeed himself in the position of

Sunday School Superintendent. No one can be nominated for the office of Sunday School

Superintendent who has not been a member of Community Baptist Church at least one year.

B. Duties - The Sunday School Superintendent shall work with the Pastor in selection of the

Sunday School curriculum materials. He shall see that the Sunday School classes have curriculum

materials and needed supplies. The Sunday School Superintendent shall be responsible for seeing

that each class has a teacher in the absence of the regular teacher. The Sunday School

Superintendent shall work with the Pastor in setting up meetings as needed. These meetings are to

help evaluate the Sunday School and motivate the teachers in areas of need throughout the Sunday

School system.

SECTION 10 - SUNDAY SCHOOL TEACHERS

A. Election - Teachers shall be elected for a one-year term at the annual conference. No one shall

be elected to the office of teacher who has not been a member of Community Baptist Church at

least one year. No one shall be elected who is not in full agreement with the Covenant and

Statement of Belief of Community Baptist Church. Teachers may succeed themselves as teachers.

B. Duties - It shall be the duty of each Sunday School Teacher and Assistant to engage

themselves in a faithful study of God’s Word and work toward the spiritual maturity of those under

them--both by Godly example, as well as exhortation. Each Teacher shall work toward the growth

of their class, exercise personal concern, and endeavor to encourage and edify every member in

any way possible.

Each Teacher shall notify the Sunday School Superintendent in the event he/she must be absent.

SECTION 11 - USHERS

A. Election - The Ushers are appointed at the annual conference of the Church. No one can be

appointed to the office of Usher who has not been a member of Community Baptist Church for at

least one year. The Usher can succeed himself as Usher.

B. Duties - The Ushers shall provide bulletins and/or other materials for people as they enter the

Church. The Ushers shall assist in the receiving of the offerings. The Ushers should be attentive to

the needs of the congregation. The Head Usher shall call for training meetings, as needed, to

prepare ushers to do their job. The Head Usher shall meet with the Pastor on a regular basis to

discuss special needs of the ushers’ ministry. The Head Usher shall be responsible for seeing that

there is an adequate supply of offering envelopes and visitors’ materials. The Ushers are

responsible for handing out a visitor’s card to first-time visitors and helping to seat all visitors.

SECTION 12 - PIANIST AND ORGANIST

A. Election - The Pianist and Organist shall be elected at the annual conference of the Church.

The Pianist and Organist can succeed themselves in their respective positions. If these positions

become paid staff positions, then the guidelines for staff positions would be used. (See Article

VIII, Section 2).

B. Duties - The Pianist and Organist shall play at all regular and special services of the Church.

SECTION 13 - MUSIC DIRECTOR

The Music Director is appointed at the annual meeting of the Church.

Duties:

1. Oversee entire music program;

2. Lead congregational singing for all services;

3. Coordinate with pastor to arrange special music for special

services;

4. Arrange special music for all scheduled services;

5. Directing Adult Choir for all services; and

6. Scheduling and overseeing Adult Choir practice.

SECTION 14– NURSERY CORDINATOR

The Nursery Coordinator is appointed at the annual meeting of the Church.

Duties: Scheduling nursery supervision for ALL services except Sunday School.

SECTION 15– BULLETINS

The Bulletin Director shall be appointed at the annual meeting of the Church.

Responsibilities include: Providing bulletins for all Sunday Morning Services and special services when

needed.

ARTICLE IX. COMMITTEES

All Committees are elected annually.

SECTION 1 - NOMINATING COMMITTEE

A. Committee Members - - This committee shall consist of six members, Pastor, Chairman of

Deacons, Sunday School Superintendent, and three other active members elected by the church.

B. Duties - The duties will be to secure a slate of teachers and officers for the following year to be

presented to the church for approval.

SECTION 2 FINANCE COMMITTEE

A. Committee Members - This committee shall consist of the Pastor, one Deacon, one Trustee

and the Treasurer. These members will be appointed by the Deacons and Trustees.

B. Duties - This committee shall formulate an Annual Budget, and present it to the Deacons. The

Deacons shall recommend the Annual Budget to the Church.

SECTION 3 - FLOWERS FOR CHURCH COMMITTEE

A. Duties - Assuring that flowers will be in the church for all worship services.

SECTION 4 – FLOWERS FOR DEATH COMMITTEE

A. Duties– This committee shall send flowers in the event of the death of active church members

or parents, spouse or children of the active member.

SECTION 5 – CEMETERY COMMITTEE AND GUIDELINES

A. Duties – Reserving and marking off all grave plots and making sure the family is aware of

their responsibilities to clean up the flowers from the grave.

B. Cemetery Guidelines-

1. Burial plots are free to active members as defined by the CBC by-laws. Active members what

have a spouse, parent, grandparent, child or sibling who passes away may purchase a plot for this

individual for $1000.00 on an “as needed” basis.

2. Individuals who pass away and have a spouse, parent, grandparent, child or sibling already

buried in CBC cemetery may be given a plot for the sum of $1000.00.

3. Inactive members burial requests can be brought before the church on a case-by-case basis.

Inactive members, if approved by church vote to be buried in CBC cemetery, will be charged a fee

$1000.00 for burial plot.

4. All burial plot monies are due within 60 days of burial.

5. Families are responsible for clearing the flowers from the grave site within two weeks after

burial. The church is responsible for maintaining the cemetery as it sees fit.

6. Graves must be marked within 120 days after burial with a cement base extending 4 inches

beyond the tomb stone.

7. Grave decorations (flowers, flags, lights, etc.) must be secured to the tomb stones. New burials

may have decorations on graves until the tomb stone arrives (within 120 days). All cemetery

decorations must be in accordance with CBC by laws.

SECTION 6 – SNOW REMOVAL COMMITTEE

A. Duties – Making sure that the church parking lot is free of all snow and ice prior to all

services.

SECTION 7 – FELLOWSHIP HALL COMMITTEE

A. Duties – Order Fellowship Hall supplies. Assuring that all needed supplies for all church

social activities are available including drinks, cups, plates, etc.

SECTION 8 – PROMOTIONS COMMITTEE

A. Duties – Promoting all special church activities such as revivals, concerts, etc. Includes

getting information to local newspapers, TV stations, radio stations and area churches.

SECTION 9 – CARD MINISTRY COMMITTEE

A. Duties – Sending cards to sick, shut-ins, bereaved families and cards to encourage attendance.

Names of individuals who need cards should be provided by Sunday School Classes, Pastor, etc.

SECTION 10 – BUS MINISTRY COMMITTEE

A. Duties – Providing transportation to and from all church services including Tuesday Night

Youth. If possible, also be responsible for vehicles maintenance.

SECTION 11 – MAINTENANCE COMMITTEE

The Maintenance Committee shall coordinate with the Trustees to ensure the upkeep of the church, to include,

but not limited to the following:

1. Church upkeep and repairs;

2. Make routine checks to make sure air conditioning/heat, etc. are operating properly, checking

water filters, etc.;

3. Filling/emptying Baptistery for Baptismal Services and securing clean up help at Baptismal

Services; and

4. Baptistery should be filled and water heated 24 hours prior to service.

SECTION 12 – SOUND MINISTRY

A. Duties:

1. Recording audio tapes of all services;

2. Running P.A. and tape system; and

3. Label each tape with date, message title, song service, etc.

SECTION 13 – D.M.A. COORDINATOR COMMITTEE

A. Duties

1. Planning and organizing trips and activities for Senior Citizens; and

2. Planning transportation for all activities and coordinate with bus drivers.

SECTION 14 – MISSIONS COMMITTEE

A. Duties:

1. Be in charge of correspondence with missionaries;

2. Post incoming letters on bulletin board;

3. Ask for volunteers to write to each of our missionaries at least once per quarter; and

4. See that prior postage and correct addresses are on the envelopes that are given to the

volunteers. All monies for this should come from the Treasurer.

SECTION 15 – LIBRARY COMMITTEE

A. Duties:

1. Screening materials to be sure they are suitable for the church;

2. Checking materials out and making sure they are returned in a timely fashion; and

3. Categorizing books properly.

SECTION 16 – COMMUNION COMMITTEE

A. Duties– Preparing the Lord’s Supper at such times the ordinance is observed.

SECTION 17 – SPECIAL ACTIVITIES COMMITTEE

A. Duties - Planning/organizing Special Activities for Church including:

1. Sweetheart Banquet – usually Saturday before Valentine’s Day;

2. Homecoming – First Sunday in June;

3. Picnic – early October;

4. Thanksgiving Dinner – Tuesday prior to Thanksgiving;

5. Covered Dish Meals for Revival Week – One meal per revival;

6. Light refreshments served after special events such as Baptismal Services, Song Services,

etc.;

7. Light refreshments after funerals;

8. Making sure that tables and chairs are properly arranged before and after each event. This

should be done with lots of volunteer help from the church; and

9. Set heat and air to proper levels before and after each event.

SECTION 18 – CHURCH HISTORY COMMITTEE

A. Duties – Updating the Church history every five years and keeping accurate records of all important

church events.

SECTION 19 – CHRISTMAS PROGRAM COMMITTEE

A. Duties – Overseeing entire Christmas Program including scheduling practices and setting date for

the program.

SECTION 20 – SIGN MINISTRY COMMITTEE

Responsibilities include displaying new message on church sign once per week. Message should always be

spiritual or contain announcements of upcoming events.

SECTION 21 – VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL COMMITTEE

Responsibilities include:

1. Setting date for VBS;

2. Ordering all necessary materials in advance;

3. Scheduling meetings with VBS workers;

4. Appointing teachers for all classes;

5. Appointing workers for various activities;

6. Making announcements and greetings during VBS assembly; and

7. Assuring that all teachers and workers have needed supplies to carry out their duties.

A. Crafts:

1. Get all supplies: craft packs or craft ideas of your own; and

2. You and your committee helps each class with crafts.

B. Music

1. Teach each class songs; and

2. Provide music program for Commencement.

C. Play

1. Appointing children for parts in play to be presented on Commencement Night.

D. Props

1. Works with play director; and

2. Sets stage for each act.

ARTICLE X. CHURCH FINANCES

SECTION 1 - FINANCES

The fiscal year shall begin January 1 and end on December 31. All funds for any and all purposes shall be

administered and accounted for by the Church Treasurer, and be properly recorded on the books of the Church.

The Church Treasurer is entrusted with the responsibilities of caring for the Church treasury in accordance with

the guidelines set forth in Article VIII, Section 5.

ARTICLE XI. MISSIONS

SECTION 1 - CANDIDATE GUIDELINES

Qualifications - Before a candidate is invited to present their work to the church, they must submit, in writing,

their doctrinal statement and personal testimony along with a doctrinal statement from their mission board. Their

doctrinal statements must be consistent with the Church beliefs and practices.

SECTION 2 - MISSION FINANCES

All financial support for missionary work must be first approved by the Pastor and Deacons. If a candidate is

approved the Pastor will make a recommendation to the church concerning amount of support and when support is

to begin. Any missionary changing fields/boards without notification to the church will be subject to loss of

support from our church. Pastor/Deacons should review missionary support status periodically to see if increased

support is needed.

ARTICLE XII. ORDINATION

SECTION 1 - CANDIDATE

Any male member who, in the judgment of the Church, gives evidence, by his living and aptness to teach, that he

is called of God, can be presented to the Church as a candidate for ordination into the gospel ministry.

He is to possess the scriptural qualifications for ordination to the Gospel ministry as set forth in I Timothy 3, and

Titus 1.

SECTION 2 - PROCEDURE

By recommendation of the Pastor and Deacons, the Church can decide by two-thirds majority of the members

present and voting at any conference, that one of its men possesses scriptural qualifications for ordination to the

Gospel ministry. Then, it shall call a council of ordained ministers or Deacons to examine the qualifications of the

candidate, and upon the recommendation of that council, the Church will act to grant or withhold ordination

recognition. Upon approval by the ordination council, an ordination service will be held to ordain the candidate.

Ordination will be withdrawn when a man ordained by the Church has walked disorderly in violation of the

scriptural qualifications for the office of a pastor, as stated in I Timothy 3 and Titus 1. Since he is a representative

of this church, and serves as a role model of Community’s teachings, as given in this Constitution and Statement

of Faith, any sexual violation as explained in Article XIII, Section 4, A and B, would require that his ordination be

rescinded immediately.

XIII. GENERAL

SECTION 1 - LITERATURE

All literature to be used in the Sunday School, visitation outreach, and other outreaches, must be scripturally

sound, using the KJV Bible references, and in full accordance with the doctrinal stand of this church.

SECTION 2 - USE OF CHURCH PROPERTY

1. Scheduling:

- All scheduling must be done through the church secretary.

- There is a $100.00 deposit that must be paid to the secretary before your event will be added to the

calendar.

- Only church members are allowed to reserve any facility at CBC church.

- The facilities will only be used for the purpose of a God honoring event and the event will in no way

go against the CBC by-laws, (Dances, Inappropriate Music or Alcohol Will Not Be Allowed On The Campus)

- If there is any event that does not fit the CBC church by-laws then it will be stopped and the deposit

will not be reimbursed.

2. Set-Up/Tear Down

- All tables and chairs must be set back up the way they were found in the original position.

- If you reserve the Family Life Center then you will be responsible for putting the chairs back up

for the Sunday services.

- There is to be no tape, pins, stickers placed on any of the walls, ceiling or floor.

- If any holes or tape marks are found on walls after your event, then you will be held responsible for the

repairs.

3. Thermostats:

Winter: Heat to 58 degrees (after event)

Summer: Air conditioning to 80 degrees (after event)

4. Cleaning:

- The $100.00 deposit that will be reimbursed after the cleaning crew finds the facilities were left in

satisfactory order.

- All trash must be taken to dumpster located on far-left side of church and all bags must be replaced in

the receptacles.

- The floors must be swept and mopped after the event. This includes sweeping under the tables.

- All dishes must be washed, dried and put up; NOT left in the drying racks.

- The bathrooms must be cleaned and all toilet’s flushed.

- All sinks must have all food removed and no dishes should remain in any sink.

- Do not leave ANY food or drink from your event at the church or you will be ask to come back to

retrieve it.

5. Church Supplies:

- The church will in no way supply your event with any napkins, plates, drinks or silverware.

- The church will allow you to use any dishes that are washable and also the ice machine.

SECTION 3 - LEGAL PROVISIONS

This church shall have the right to own, buy, or sell tangible properties both real and personal, in its own name and

through properly elected officers, when authorized as required, herein. No profit shall ever accrue to the benefit

of any individuals from assets, holdings, or other transactions in which this church/corporation may be involved.

In the event of dissolution of this church/corporation, all of its debts shall be fully satisfied. None of its assets or

holdings shall be divided among the members or other individuals, but prior to dissolution to such other non-profit

religious corporations, as are in agreement in the letter and spirit of the statement of belief, adopted by this church,

and in conformity with the requirements of the United States Internal Revenue Service with specific reference to

Section 501 (C) (3).

SECTION 4 – HUMAN SEXUALITY

A. We believe that Community’s members are role models of its teachings as given in this Constitution and Statement

of Faith. Therefore, we do not accept as volunteer workers, members, or paid staff, those who violate Community’s

constitution and by-laws. We believe that God has commanded that no intimate sexual activity be engaged in, outside of a

marriage between a biological man and a biological woman. We believe that any form of homosexuality, lesbianism,

bisexuality, bestiality, incest, fornication, adultery, and pornography, are sinful perversions of God’s gift of sex. Any

employee of the Church becoming pregnant or causing pregnancy as a result of consensual intercourse, outside of the

marriage relationship, shall be terminated from employment. (Gen. 2:24; Gen. 19:5, 13; Gen. 26:8-9; Lev. 18:1-30; Rom.

1:26-29; 1 Cor. 5:1; 6:9; I Thess. 4:1-8; Heb. 13:4)

B. We believe that the only legitimate marriage is the joining of one biological man and one biological woman. (Gen.

2:24; Rom. 7:2; 1 Cor. 7:10; Eph. 5:22-23)

C. We believe that men and women are spiritually equal in position before God, but that God has ordained distinct and

separate functions for men and women in the home and the church. The husband is to be the leader of the home and men are

to be the leaders (pastors and deacons) of the church. Accordingly, only biological men are eligible for licensure and

ordination by the Church. (Gal. 3:28; Col. 3:18; 1 Tim. 2:8-15; 3:4-5, 12)

SECTION 5 – STATEMENT OF KNOWN REGISTERED SEX OFFENDERS

Upon the knowledge by Pastors or church members of a convicted sex offender attending church or other

activities on church property, at least two or three men from among the Pastors and Board of Deacons shall

promptly meet with the offender. If the offender is a biological female, one Pastor with two women of good

standing in the church shall meet with her.

Upon meeting with the offender, the men or women shall explain the church’s policy of denying registered sex

offenders’ membership and access to church property, emphasizing the duty of pastors to protect and ensure the

safety of their congregations. These men and women should also point out by denying access to the church

property; they are ensuring the offender will not be placed in a situation that would act as a constant temptation.

Every effort shall be made by the Pastors and Board of Deacons to find other specially trained persons, church

ministries or community outreach programs in the area aimed at helping sex offenders making certain the

individual will be ministered to. The Pastors may agree to meet with the sex offender in order to personally

minister to him or her. It is best that this ministry occurs off church property.

SECTION 6 – STATEMENT OF SANCTITY OF LIFE, ABORTION, GENDER, SEXUALITY &

MARRIAGE

A. We believe that all human life is sacred and created by God in His image. Human life is of estimable worth in all its

dimensions, including pre-born babies, the aged, the physically or mentally challenged, and every other stage or condition

from conception through natural death. We are therefore called to defend, protect, and value all human life (Psalms 139).

This statement in no way should be construed to infringe upon a member’s Living Will, Advanced Healthcare Directive, and

other “End of Life” documents, or the decision for, or by, a member to “Let Die” in terminal cases; however, “Assisted

Suicide” is not in keeping with the spirit of Scripture of the beliefs of Community Baptist Church.

B. We believe that the human life begins at conception, and that the unborn child is a living human being. Abortion

constitutes the unjustified, unexcused taking of unborn human life. Abortion is murder. We reject any teaching that

abortions of pregnancies due to rape, incest, birth defects, gender selection, birth or population control, or the mental wellbeing

of the mother are acceptable. (Job 3:16; Psalms 51:5; 139:13-16; Isa. 44:24; 49:1, 5; Jer. 1:5; 20:15-18; Luke 1:44)

C. We believe that God wonderfully and immutably creates each person as male or female. The two distinct,

complementary genders together reflect the image and nature of God. (Genesis 1:26-27) Rejection of one’s biological sex is

a rejection of the image of God within that person.

We believe that any form of sexual immorality (including adultery, fornication, homosexual behavior, bisexual conduct,

bestiality, incest, and use of pornography) is sinful and offensive to God (Matt. 15:18-20; 1 Cor. 6:9-10).

D. We believe that the term “marriage” has only one meaning: the uniting of one biological man and one biological woman

in a single, exclusive union, as delineated in Scripture (Genesis 2:18-25). We believe that God intends sexual intimacy to

occur only between a man and a woman who are married to each other. (1 Cor. 6:18; 7:2-5; Heb. 13:4). We believe that God

has commanded that no intimate sexual activity be engaged in outside of a marriage between a man and a woman.

Anyone who serves at Community Baptist Church or is employed by Community Baptist church in any capacity agree to and

abide by this Statement on Marriage, Gender and Sexuality.

We believe that God offers redemption and restoration to all who confess and forsake their sin, seeking His mercy and

forgiveness through Jesus Christ. (Acts 3:19-21; Romans 10:9-10; 1 Cor. 6:9-10)

Ordained and (or) licensed Pastors employed by Community Baptist Church or who serve as members at Community

Baptist Church will not perform a wedding ceremony unless both male and female are members at Community Baptist

Church. This includes on the campus of Community Baptist Church and also off campus of Community Baptist Church.

Any wedding ceremonies performed by either paid or unpaid staff at Community Baptist Church will abide by (Section 6

C&D) of this document.

SECTION 7 – HEALTH AND SAFETY

A. Attendance and Membership for Those with Contagious Illnesses.

It is the policy of our ministry that believers in the Lord Jesus Christ who meet the qualifications

for covenant membership will not be barred from membership because of any disability or

infirmity. We welcome the aged, handicapped, or otherwise disabled to attend services and

functions. Those with diseases and infirmities are also welcome to attend if they know or sincerely

believe, based on medical advice that their infirmity will not be contagious in the activity or

function which they are attending. Adults attending any of our functions who have a contagious

infirmity are encouraged to act in the best interests of the health and safety or others by abstaining

from church services and functions while they are in a contagious state. To provide for the health

and safety of infants and children in the care of ministry staff, children who are in a contagious

state and those who manifest significant symptoms of illness will not be admitted to nursery and

class facilities but should be cared for by the parent or guardian.

B. Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome

1. Adults

It is the policy of our ministry that those with Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS) will

be permitted to attend services and functions without segregation and, if otherwise qualified, be

admitted to membership. It is the position of our ministry that based upon current medical research

and the laws of our state, that AIDS and its related infirmities cannot be transmitted by casual

contact in a setting where physical contact is minimal. Should further research substantiate that

AIDS has a greater degree of contagiousness or will be made to provide segregated

accommodations if desired, but in no way will an individual be excluded from attendance or

covenant membership because he or she has the Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome. Adults

having AIDS are not required to disclose their infirmity to church leadership but are encouraged to

use caution and discretion and to give consideration to fellow attendees.

2. Children

It is the policy of our ministry with regard to infants who have AIDS or who are in a high risk

group (i.e. children born to mothers who have tested positive for the AIDS virus), to use great

caution in caring for such children due to the repeated exposure of nursery staff to the bodily fluids

of such children. In cases of aggressive behavior, an infant will immediately be segregated and

their parent(s) called upon to care for the child.

In all cases where an infant has AIDS or is a member of a high risk group, the parent or guardian is

under a good-faith obligation to divulge such information to the nursery staff.

C. Hygiene

It is the policy of our ministry to provide a clean and sanitary facility for our church and to provide dedicated

personnel who are familiar with the provisions of this policy and who will endeavor to uphold its guidelines by

keeping the facility clean and using proper hygiene in accordance with the procedures contained herein.

D. Local, State and Federal Laws

It is the policy of our ministry to willingly comply with local, state, and federal laws and regulations affecting

health and safety, accommodation of the handicapped, and maintenance of its facilities insofar as such laws and

regulations are in harmony and not in conflict with the principles of Scripture.

E. Interpretation and Review

Interpretation – The Deacon Board has sole authority for interpreting both the policy and procedures set forth in

this document.

Review – The attached reference documents are to act as working documents. They shall undergo periodic

review seeking consistency with this policy, current medical research, good hygienic practices and available

facilities. Directors of our various ministries shall prepare procedures for implementing this policy. All

procedures shall be reviewed annually by ministry directors, amended as necessary, and then be submitted to the

Deacon Board. The Board shall review the documents for consistency with existing and planned facilities and

their use. Approval by the Board constitutes final approval of the processes and subsequent amendment of the

exhibits to this policy.

F. Disclaimer

The ministry is not the guarantor of the health of those who enter its facilities and is not liable for illnesses or

diseases contracted while on its premises. Those involved in the ministries will endeavor to uphold this policy in

a firm but friendly manner, but it is ultimately the responsibility of individuals attending our functions, and

specifically parents with young children, to comply with the policy’s guidelines.

SECTION 8. - ADOPTION POLICY

The adoption of this Constitution shall affect a repeal of all previously adopted rules which are in conflict

herewith.
